Manchester City players Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have both tested positive for coronavirus.
The two Etihad stars must now spend a period in self-isolation, as per government guidelines.
“Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season.”
While the isolation periods have begun at the start of the week leading up to the new Premier League season kicking-off, Man City actually don’t play their first match of 2020/21 for another fortnight – with a visit to Wolves on Monday, September 21.
Their home clash against Aston Villa, due to be played this weekend, was postponed to allow City extra time off following their Champions League commitments which kept them playing competitive football until last month.
Wide midfielder Mahrez played 50 times for City last season, scoring 13 goals and adding 16 assists, while Laporte, the centre-back, managed only 20 appearances having missed around five months of action with a serious knee injury.
