Man Utd: Ten Hag sweats over Martinez injury

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed deep concern following Lisandro Martínez’s knee injury during their 3-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Martínez sustained the injury in the second half when West Ham’s Vladimír Coufal landed on his outstretched leg, forcing the Argentina international to leave the field. Despite attempting to continue, Martínez suffered a subsequent breakdown and was substituted by Raphaël Varane.

Ten Hag described the injury as a “personal disaster” for Martínez, who had returned to the starting lineup after a four-month absence due to a foot injury.

“We have to wait for the coming days for the diagnosis then we can tell you more. We do everything to get the right diagnosis to see what the damage is,” Ten Hag stated. “He is very sad, very disappointed. We are with him. It’s a personal disaster. Let’s wait but it is really bad.

The injury to Martínez marred an otherwise positive day for Manchester United, who secured their most significant home league victory of the season.

Reflecting on the win, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of maintaining perspective: “It’s only one game, so don’t celebrate this too much. We don’t have reasons to do it but for today we are pleased with it. Now have a team that is in balance on the pitch. We can play better but also you see the progress is coming.”

“It’s not about one player, it’s about a team. That’s what I have seen today. It looked like a team. Eleven defending, eleven attacking. For me, it was enjoyable to watch,” Ten Hag concluded.
