Manchester United have revealed that José Mourinho and his staff received a £19.6m payoff following the Portuguese was sacked at Old Trafford.

The club disclosed this in figures released on Thursday in the club’s half-yearly accounts.

It was called an “exceptional item relating to compensation to the former manager and certain members of the coaching staff for loss of office”.

The other coaching staff thought to be compensated are senior goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro, opposition scout Ricardo Formosinho, fitness coaches Stefano Rapetti and Carlos Lalin and analyst Giovanni Cerra, although Mourinho is expected to have received the bulk of the money.

Manchester United posted higher second-quarter revenue helped by a 38 per cent surge in broadcasting income and stuck to its financial targets for the year.

Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31 came in at 208.6 million pounds, compared with 177.4 million pounds a year earlier, the club said on Thursday.

The 20-time English champions said they continue to expect revenue of 615-630 million pounds and adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 175-190 million pounds for 2018-19.
