Manchester United assistant coach, Eric Ramsay, has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of Minnesota United.

According to The Athletic. Ramsay is set to depart from his position at Manchester United following the team’s fixture against rivals Manchester City on March 3. While the deal has not been finalized, it is reported to be in the final stages.

Minnesota will commence their 2024 MLS season against Austin FC on Saturday, followed by a match against reigning champions Columbus Crew on March 2.

At the age of 32, Ramsay, highly esteemed in English football circles, will assume the role of the youngest head coach in the MLS this season, with NYCFC’s Nick Cushing, aged 39, being the second youngest.

Ramsay, a Welshman, has held various roles at Manchester United under different managers, beginning as a player development and set-piece coach during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure.

He continued under Ralf Rangnick and gained prominence on Erik ten Hag’s staff following the latter’s appointment before the 2022-23 season.

In addition to his duties at Manchester United, Ramsay served as an assistant coach for the Wales national team for six months before stepping down last fall. Upon his appointment, Wales manager Rob Page hailed Ramsay as “arguably one of the best young coaches in football at this moment in time.”

Previously, Ramsay worked as an under-23 assistant coach at Chelsea and is fluent in Spanish.
