Manchester United is set to officially announce Ruben Amorim as their new manager after reaching a deal with Sporting Lisbon, sources report.

Amorim, 39, is expected to begin his role at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his first game slated for United’s away match against Ipswich on November 24.

Reports from The Athletic reveal that Amorim will remain with Sporting for the next three matches, including a Champions League face-off with Manchester City. United is said to have paid Sporting one million euros above Amorim’s 10 million euro exit clause to secure his early release.

Following Erik ten Hag’s departure on Monday, United moved quickly to secure Amorim after a series of disappointing results left the club in 14th place in the Premier League. Sporting confirmed United’s willingness to meet Amorim’s release clause on Tuesday.

In a temporary role, United caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy led the team to a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the League Cup on Wednesday. Reflecting on his role, Van Nistelrooy said, “I came here as an assistant to help the club… I’m helping as long as I’m needed, and in the future, in any capacity, I’m here to help the club build towards the future.”
