Manchester United have agreed to sign Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £65 million, reports say.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian caught the attention of United’s manager Ruben Amorim after scoring 20 goals in 38 Premier League matches last season.
Tottenham, managed by ex-Brentford coach Thomas Frank, also wanted Mbeumo but United’s improved offer won the race. The deal includes an extra £6 million in possible add-ons.
Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical before joining the team for their pre-season tour in the United States on Tuesday.
He will become United’s third new signing this summer, following Matheus Cunha from Wolves and teenage defender Diego Leon from Paraguay.
Amorim is keen to rebuild United’s attack after the team finished 15th in the league, their worst result since the 1973-74 season. They also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham by a single goal.
Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggled upfront last season. Reports also claim that Amorim has asked Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are also likely to leave after their loan spells.
Mbeumo has played 242 matches for Brentford, scoring 70 goals and providing 51 assists since joining from Troyes in 2019. He helped Brentford gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and was key to their 10th place finish last season.
