A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand in prison custody of a man, Zayyanu Yakubu, after he pleaded guilty to stealing a she-goat.

The presiding judge, Fati Auna, however, reserved sentencing for Feb.19.

Yakubu was docked on a count charge of theft, contrary to section 288 of the penal code law.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. John Steven had told the court that the accused was arrested by vigilante operatives attached to Dutsen Kura, Minna with a she-goat reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

Steven stated: “upon investigation, the accused person confessed to have stolen the goat at Ungwan Dachi, Minna with an intention to sell it.”

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The prosecutor, thereafter, prayed the court to try him summarily in line with section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
