Man jailed 10 months for selling employer’s motorcycle

A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year-old man, Bashir Makama, to ten months imprisonment for selling his employer’s motorcycle.
Makama was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He, however, begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, Mr. Sulyman Ola, gave Makama an option to pay a fine of N40, 000, and warned him to desist from crimes and be of good behaviour.
Ola ordered Makama to pay compensation of N300, 000 to the complainant, Idris Shuaibu.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mayowa Adefioye, told the court that the complainant, reported the case at the Zuba Police Station on April 10.
Adefioye said that the complainant sent Makama with his motorcycle worth N300, 000 to drop off a native doctor who visited him to treat his son on March 26.
The prosecution counsel alleged that Makama dropped off the native doctor, sold the motorcycle to an unknown person, and converted the money to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
