Man in court for alleged stealing of FG cable

The police in Lagos on Monday brought a 35-year-old man, Friday Emmanuel, before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing of an armoured cable and iron rods valued at N150,000.

Emmanuel, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.14, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. in Lagos State.

Adeosun said that the armoured cable and iron rod belonged to the Federal Government.

“The defendant was caught when he was planning to sell the stolen cable and was handed over to the police for prosecution,” Adeosun said.

The prosecutor said that the alleged offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until March 9 for mention.
