A 20-year-old man, Adeleke Temitope, was brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly abducting a 15-year-old girl.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing trial for the alleged unlawful abduction, which occurred on August 30 in Ikere-Ekiti.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court of the defendant’s actions in unlawfully abducting Adeyemi Ayomide, a 15-year-old girl, against her will.
The act is said to contravene Section 275 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him. His counsel, Mr. Benjamin Aladesuyi, requested bail for his client, assuring the court that Temitope would not evade justice.
In response, Magistrate Dolapo Babalogbon granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety who must provide an equal amount.
The case has been adjourned until November 22 for further proceedings.
