A man has been electrocuted while trying to vandalize a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday morning, was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

She explained that the unidentified man had climbed into the transformer house to cut a wire but was electrocuted in the process.

The chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, reported the case to the police.

He said, “At about 7 am, I received a call to inspect the transformer. When I got there with other community executives, we saw the lifeless body of the man. It was clear he had tried to vandalize the wire, leading to his electrocution.”

The community has reportedly faced ongoing issues of theft and damage to electrical wires from their power transformer.

Odutola stated that detectives visited the scene to investigate and took photographs as part of their process.

“Once we got the report, detectives inspected the scene and contacted the PHCN office. The corpse was later deposited at the General Hospital Ifo mortuary for autopsy and preservation,” Odutola added.

The police assured the public that investigations would continue, urging residents to report suspicious activities around public utilities.
