Man City win EPL title after dramatic Villa comeback
Manchester City have been crowned the 2021/22 Premier League champions after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa.
Steven Gerrard’s side pushed City and their fans towards insanity when they took a 2-0 lead into the 75th-minute after goals from Matty Cash (37′), and Philippe Coutinho (69′).
At this point, Liverpool needed only a goal to win the league provided City remained defeated but that’s one thing opponents have found difficult to pull off this season against Pep Guardiola’s side,
With less than 15 minutes to go, City struck through İlkay Gündoğan (76′) and equalised two minutes after through Rodri.
Guardiola’s side were desperately in need of a decider to avoid heartbreak if Liverpool had found the winner against Wolves.
With time running out, Gundogan, who happened to be Guardiola’s first signing when he joined Man City back in 2016, fired home the winner in the 81st minute, sending the Etihad Stadium into a frenzy.
Although Liverpool ended up defeating Wolves 3-1, there was no stopping City from winning their sixth Premier League title, with four of those coming in the last five seasons.
It was the first time City came from two goals down to win a Premier League game for the first time since February 2005 (3-2 vs Norwich at Carrow Road).
City pulled off the trophy-winning victory on Sunday with just 12 minutes and 22 seconds between going 2-0 down and then leading 3-2 in the match.
