The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing and beheading of a man, identified as Dick Nnachi, in Oso-Edda community, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, made this known in a statement on Sunday, describing the Thursday incident as wicked and inhumane.
“We are aware of the incident and our men have been deployed to the disputed area,” Ukandu said. “An investigation is ongoing to determine the root cause and bring those responsible to justice.”
The Oso-Edda community has been in a long-standing land dispute with Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area. Residents say the violence has escalated in recent months despite efforts by security agencies and the state government to restore peace.
Ukandu urged the warring communities to respect security measures and avoid areas marked as restricted zones.
“I remember the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has declared the area a buffer zone,” he said. “My advice to the warring communities is to avoid the areas that have been declared buffer zone by security agencies and government.”
Police have assured residents that patrols have been intensified to prevent further violence, while the investigation continues to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
