Man bags 104 years jail term for child trafficking in Kano

A Kano State High Court presided by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf has sentenced the mastermind of the abduction of nine children to 104 years in prison.

In addition to the sentence, Paul Owne, who was also charged for stealing and selling the Children in Anambra State was handed a fine of the sum of N100,000.

He was sentenced without an option of a fine for conspiring with six other accomplices to kidnap several children who were under 10 years of age from Kano State and sold them at Onitsha in Anambra State.

DailyPost reports that Owne pleaded guilty to all the 38 charges levelled against him by the Kano State Government, leading to his sentencing under three classifications.

However, five other defendants who were arraigned alongside Owne namely – Where Ogbono, Emanuel Igwe, Loise Duru, Monica Oracha, and Chinelo Ifedigwe, pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against them.

Justice Zuwaira found Owne guilty on counts 2, 8, 9, 27 and 34 for the first category and subsequently sentenced him to seven years each without an option of fine in addition to the sum of N100,000 fine

The suspect was handed another seven years sentence each on counts 3, 5, 10, 11, 22, 28, and 38 while he was given four years each in contravention of counts 4, 12, 13, 29 and 38, without the option of fine.

The justice ruled that all the counts shall run concurrently.
