The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adeola Adewale, for allegedly killing a man at a service apartment in the Abule Egba area of the state.

In a statement on Sunday, the spokesman for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was caught in the Oko-Oba area after a careful and detailed investigation by officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Hundeyin explained that on March 28, 2025, police officers found the dead body of a man during a routine check at the service apartment. At the scene, officers recovered an empty syringe, two empty cans of malt drink, and two bottles of water.

The body was later taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. From that moment, the police launched a serious search for the suspect.

Hundeyin said, “During interrogation, Adeola Adewale confessed to giving the deceased a malt drink mixed with poison, which caused his death.”

Further investigation revealed that the victim was a 65-year-old man named Mr. Adebayo.

“The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover more facts about the case. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Hundeyin added.

The police said they had received the first report about the murder on March 29, 2025.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that on March 27, 2025, around 5:20 p.m., an unidentified woman came with the deceased to rent a service apartment,” the statement said.

A few hours later, the woman left the premises with the deceased’s car and other personal belongings. She told the housekeeper she would return soon but never did.

Hundeyin said the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has assured residents of Lagos State that the police remain committed to their safety.

He also warned that anyone involved in criminal activities would be tracked, arrested, and made to face the law.
