The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man, Onu Simeon, after a fight at Utako Market, Abuja, led to the death of Ifeanyi Chukwu on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement. She said the police received a distress call about a fight at the market around 9:30 a.m. and quickly sent officers to the scene.

“Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, where Ifeanyi Chukwu was found lying unconscious on the ground. He was immediately rushed to NNPC Hospital, Utako, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead,” Adeh stated.

According to the police, an initial investigation revealed that the fight started as a dispute over a space to display goods for sale. Chukwu and Simeon, who lived in different parts of Abuja, had an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, Chukwu suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. His body has been taken to a general hospital for further investigation.

“The suspect, Onu Simeon, is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Adeh added.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, reacted to the incident by urging residents to resolve conflicts peacefully to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
