Man, 44, arraigned over alleged N540,000 fraud

A 45-year-old man, Olanrewaju Gideon, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged N540,000 fraud.
Gideon, who resides on Surulere Street, Obadore in Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences since Nov. 17, 2019, at Olaniyi Goodluck Street, Ogudu, Lagos.
Perezi said that the defendant and one other at large, collected N540,000 from the complainant, Mrs Deborah Warikobo under the pretence of securing a job for her at Bimafarm Global Resources LTD.
The prosecutor said that the defendant assured the complainant that the said money would be used to lunch a bitcoin company and she would be made one of the directors but instead converted the money to his personal use.
He said that the offences contravened sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daodu, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Daodu adjourned the case until Jan. 26, 2021, for mention.
