Malaysia is considering legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice over the alleged abduction and mistreatment of activists aboard the Gaza-bound Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla, according to local media reports on Monday.

Speaking at a reception ceremony held at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari said the Malaysian government plans to file a case once legal representatives complete the compilation of relevant evidence and documentation.

“We will not remain silent, we will not stop. While the legal team gathers all documentation on violations of international law, they (flotilla participants) were kidnapped more than once, they were tortured,” Amirudin said.

The humanitarian convoy, known as the Global Sumud flotilla, reportedly carried more than 400 international activists seeking to challenge Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza. Reports indicated that Israeli forces intercepted and detained the vessels in international waters last week.

Part of the mission was coordinated from Türkiye, with the boats departing from Marmaris before heading toward Gaza.

Amirudin further stated that Malaysia would continue mounting diplomatic pressure while pushing for the “full liberation” of Gaza. He added that the country intends to host a series of international conferences focused on the Palestinian cause as part of efforts to strengthen global advocacy.

According to him, discussions are also underway for a future humanitarian initiative tagged “Sumud 3.0,” aimed at sustaining support missions for Gaza.
