Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has acknowledged receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, assuring Nigerians that he is prepared to appear before the agency.
Malami made this known in a post on his personal Facebook page on Friday, stressing his commitment to accountability and transparency in public office.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.
He noted that his decision to disclose the invitation publicly aligns with his long-standing stance on openness and responsible governance.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, stating that he would continue to keep Nigerians informed as developments unfold.
Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His tenure was marked by several notable legal battles, including asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption reforms, and a series of controversial government actions that drew significant national and international attention.
He also played a central role in high-profile cases involving financial crimes, arbitration disputes, and broad governance reforms.
In the latter part of his tenure, Malami came under increased public scrutiny over issues such as asset declarations, contract approvals, and the management of recovered assets—allegations he repeatedly rejected.
As at the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not provided any details regarding the nature or scope of its invitation to the former attorney-general.
