Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is scheduled to officially bestow the staff of office upon Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, on December 16.
This ceremony coincides with a stay of execution granted by a state High Court in Ogbomoso regarding a previous judgment ordering the removal of the monarch.
Another contender for the throne, Prince Kabir Olaoye had filed a lawsuit, marked HOG/27/2022, alleging irregularities in the process that led to Oba Ghandi’s ascension as the Soun.
In response, Justice Kareem Adedokun ruled in favor of the plaintiff, effectively removing Oba Ghandi from the position.
However, both Oba Ghandi and the Oyo state government have appealed the ruling and filed an application for a stay of execution.
On Monday, the judge granted the stay application, instructing all parties to maintain the status quo until the resolution of the pending appeal.
