Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a substantial salary increase for security personnel at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.

Their monthly earnings will now rise from N18,800 to N80,000.

The directive was issued on September 30 during the governor’s visit to the hospital, where he held an interactive session with staff.

The move followed a heartfelt appeal from one of the security guards, who spoke up about the difficult working conditions and low pay.

“We are suffering. I have a family with three children. Please help us,” the guard said, highlighting that they were not considered permanent staff and lacked basic employment benefits.

Governor Makinde, visibly affected by the testimony, asked for clarification on their current remuneration.

Upon learning they received N18,800 monthly—and further clarification from hospital management revealed they were outsourced and paid N27,000 by a private contractor—the governor took immediate action.

He ordered the hospital to end its contract with the private security firm, absorb all 67 guards as ad-hoc staff, and implement the new N80,000 monthly salary starting from October 1.
