A student of Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), identified as Ezekiel Mayowa, has taken his own life by consuming a bottle of ‘Sniper’ insecticide after he was allegedly dumped by his girlfriend of nine years.
It was gathered that the deceased was a part-time student in the department of Hospitality Management Technology (HMT) of the institution and also the President of Hospitality Management Students Association (HOSMATSA) for the part-time (weekend) section.
Mayowa reportedly locked himself in his room on Thursday night and took to Facebook to live stream his last moments holding a bottle of the insecticide which he later consumed.
His lifeless body was evacuated from his room the next day.
In the footage, Mayowa was seen weeping and lamenting about his estranged lover, ‘Bolaji Temmy’, who he said abandoned him shortly after she was mobilised for the one-year NYSC.
He said he has made several efforts to reignite his love with his estranged girlfriend, but it seems she wanted someone who is more financially buoyant, advising young men to ensure they make enough money before going into a relationship with any lady.
Mayowa in the footage also urged the Federal Government to scrap the NYSC programme, which according to him led to the end of his nine years relationship.
He said,
“I will advise the Federal Government to scrap NYSC because that is where I lost my girlfriend since she became a youth corps member last year we’ve been having unresolved issues
“She dug up a misunderstanding we had three years ago as the reason for dumping me”
He thereafter declared
“I am going, I need to go, Bolaji Temmy is the woman I’m talking about.”
Appealing to young men Mayowa said,
“To all the boys out there, please try to make money before you date any lady. I’ve tried my best all I could,
“We’ve been dating since nine years and now she is leaving
“Though I’ve hurt her in the past, but I’ve appealed to her, but she insisted it’s over between us.”
He begged his mother not to weep over his death, saying that was how he chose his own part.
