A Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has sentenced Kalthum Mustapha to three years in prison for a N1.35 million fraud involving the supply of ready-to-use therapeutic food.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya delivered the judgment on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Kalthum was first arraigned on May 13, 2024, on one count of cheating.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, she collected N1,350,000 from Muhammad Lawan Sani, Abubakar Umar, and Yusuf Jafar in June 2022 for the supply of “tammua packages” but failed to deliver or return the money.
The judge gave her the option of paying a N50,000 fine or serving six months in prison, and also ordered her to refund N635,000 to the victims or serve an additional two years.
EFCC prosecutors Mukhtar Ali Ahmed and Faruku Muhammad called witnesses and presented documents during the trial.
