Pop icon Madonna has announced she will release a new dance album next year, marking her first studio record in seven years.
The 67-year-old singer, who remains the best-selling female artist of all time, is returning to Warner Records, the label behind her 1980s hits such as “Like a Virgin” and “Holiday.” She left the label in 2007 after signing a massive deal with Live Nation.
“I am happy to be reunited and look forward to the future, making music, doing the unexpected while perhaps provoking a few needed conversations,” Madonna said in a statement on Thursday.
The new project will be produced by Stuart Price, the DJ and songwriter who worked with her on the critically acclaimed 2005 album “Confessions on a Dance Floor.”
Welcoming her back, Warner Records co-chairmen Tom Corson and Aaron Bay-Schuck said, “We are honored to welcome Madonna back home to Warner Records. Madonna isn’t just an artist — she’s the blueprint, the rule-breaker, the ultimate cultural juggernaut.”
The seven-time Grammy winner, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, has sold over 400 million records worldwide.
The album comes after Madonna was forced to postpone her world tour last year following a bacterial infection, raising concerns about her health at the time.
