The Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee,Senator Nenadi Usman, has hailed the Supreme Court ruling that removed Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman, describing it as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

Recall that the Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, overturned an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had recognized Abure as LP’s National Chairman.

The apex court ruled that the appellate court lacked the jurisdiction to affirm Abure’s leadership.

In her reaction to the judgment, Senator Usman emphasized that the ruling marked a significant turning point for both the Labour Party and the nation’s democratic process. “The recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which allowed the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman, declaring it meritorious, while dismissing the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction of the Labour Party as unmeritorious, is a victory for the rule of law and a significant milestone for our democracy,” the statement read.

Usman called for unity within the party, urging members to focus on the broader goal of building a better Nigeria rather than engaging in internal conflict. “This is not a time for triumphalism—there is no victor and no vanquished,” she stated. “What matters most is our shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the Labour Party and the Nigerian people. We must now come together, united in purpose and vision, to move the party forward.”

She also reaffirmed that the Labour Party remains a united and indivisible family, committed to promoting justice, equity, and people-centered governance. “We call on all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain calm, focused, and committed to the democratic ideals that bind us,” Usman concluded.
