Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has dismissed the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress as lacking political significance in the state following Saturday’s by-election results.

Speaking on Sunday at a victory rally in Nanka, where supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance gathered to celebrate their electoral success, Soludo declared that the election outcomes proved the ADC to be “non-existent” and the Labour Party “dead” in Anambra politics.

“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it yesterday. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo told jubilant supporters wearing APGA-branded attire featuring the party’s cock logo.

The governor also criticized his predecessor, Peter Obi, who had supported ADC candidates in the by-elections as part of a broader opposition coalition preparing for the 2027 presidential election. Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has aligned himself with the coalition, which seeks to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election.

However, Soludo asserted that the people of Anambra overwhelmingly rejected the coalition during the by-elections. “They wanted to use it as a test case for the new concoction called ADC in Anambra, but that election was won by APGA with about 77 percent. The signal we sent was that both ADC and Labour Party are dead in Anambra,” he said.

In the senatorial by-election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu winner for Anambra South Senatorial District. Nwachukwu secured 90,408 votes, defeating Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 19,847 votes, while ADC’s Donald Amangbo came third with 2,889 votes. Nwachukwu will succeed the late Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented the district until his death in July 2024.

Likewise, INEC declared APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe winner of the Onitsha North Constituency I by-election for the Anambra State House of Assembly. Soludo highlighted that the constituency is Peter Obi’s home, describing the APGA victory there as further proof of the party’s dominance in the state.

A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Soludo is seeking re-election under the APGA banner in the November 8, 2025 governorship election. He recently visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, reaffirming their long-standing personal friendship.
