Liverpool is poised to achieve a historic milestone as they welcome Burnley to Anfield this Saturday, setting a new club record for the largest home league crowd in their storied history.

The completion of the upper tier of the renovated Anfield Road stand will culminate in a full opening, significantly elevating the stadium’s capacity to approximately 60,000 spectators.

Notably, the current record for attendance during a league fixture at Anfield dates back to December 1949, with 58,757 fans witnessing a clash against Chelsea.

Despite setbacks and delays, including the involvement of construction firm Buckingham Group, which faced administration in September, the £80 million ($100.7m) project persevered under Rayner Rowen Construction.

A partial opening of the upper tier occurred ahead of December’s match against Manchester United, following a successful test event attended by manager Jurgen Klopp.

The upcoming match against Burnley will see an additional 3,000 tickets made available, including 2,500 hospitality seats after the completion of executive lounges within the new structure.

Collaborating with Liverpool City Council, the club aims to ensure compliance with emergency conditions testing, underscoring their commitment to fan safety.

While Anfield’s capacity will not reach its maximum potential of 61,000 due to ongoing seat installation and aesthetic enhancements, progress continues with the fan zone and overall refinement of the Anfield Road stand, slated for completion by season’s end.

Anfield’s highest attendance to date remains 61,905, recorded during an FA Cup encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 1952.
