Lionel Richie celebrates 38th anniversary of first solo album
American singer and songwriter, Lionel Richie, has taken to his verified Facebook account to celebrate the 38th anniversary of his first solo album.
The composer, multi-instrumentalist and actor, thanked his fans for their unwavering support over the years.
He wrote, “Can’t believe it’s been 38 years! Happy anniversary to my very first solo record. Thank you all for the love and support throughout the years, I’m TRULY grateful! What’s your favourite track?”
Richie began his music career in 1968, as a member of the Commodores. The Commodores became established as a popular soul group; their first several albums had a danceable and funky sound.
Over time, Richie began to write and sing more romantic, easy-listening ballads. Richie launched a solo career in 1982.
His 1982 debut solo album, Lionel Richie, contained three hit singles; Truly, You Are and My Love.
His recordings with the Commodores and those that he had during his solo career made him one of the most successful balladeers of the 1980s.
