Lionel Messi equals Pele’s goal record in Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Valencia
Argentine and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has matched the goal record of Brazillian football legend, Pele in the 2-2 draw against Valencia.
The 33-year-old became joint highest goal scorer of 643 goals for a single club for Barcelona just like Pele did for Santos.
Messi would have broken the record by a goal had he not missed a penalty earlier but the Argentine would have to wait until another match to break the record.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s Gerd Muller (another one-club man) is next after Messi and Pele, having netted a total of 564 goals.
He is followed by Spotring’s Fernando Peyroteo with 544 goals and Slavia Prague’s Josef Bican who netted a total of 534 goals.
