Three Nigerians have been arrested in Libya for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking.
The arrest was made by the Samnu Police Department in the southern part of the country. This was announced on Sunday by Migrant Rescue Watch through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
According to the report, the suspects were caught with a quantity of hashish, which the police believe was meant to be sold.
The arrest happened during a special operation in the town of Samnu, in the Murzuq district. This area is known for smuggling and human trafficking activities because it is close to Libya’s southern borders.
The statement said, “Samnu Police Dept. arrested 3 migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking. The trio were found in possession of quantity of hashish earmarked for sale. The case was referred to public prosecution.”
The police did not release the names of the suspects but said the matter has been handed over to the public prosecution for further investigation and legal action.
This operation is part of wider efforts by Libyan authorities to stop drug-related crimes and cross-border trafficking involving migrants.
