LG polls: Lagos begins distribution of election materials
The stage is set for the Local Government and Local Council Development Area elections in Lagos as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials commence the distribution of election materials in Ikeja.
Officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission were on ground at the St. Anglican School at Ikeja, one of the venues for the elections, on Saturday morning, to distribute election materials such as ballot boxes and slips, so that the election can fully commence.
Heavy security was also present at the venue as party agents and electoral officials coordinated themselves for the commencement of the election.
An agent for the Peoples Democratic Party, who identified himself as Mr Jerry, spoke to PUNCH Online about the process.
He said, “We are here to monitor the LASIEC officials distributing the bags and the paper before we take off to the polling booth. That’s why I’m here.”
He also stated that the distribution is going smoothly, as elections is expected to kick off soon.
The voting exercise in Lagos would be conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission to elect chairmen and councillors, and is expected to be held across the 20 local government areas and 35 local council development areas of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the Command had put measures in place to enforce the restriction of movement across the state between 6 am and 3 pm, adding that only those on election duty and essential services on the election day would be exempted.
