Leverkusen suffers Fosu-Mensah crucial injury blow

Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen have been dealt a major injury blow to former Manchester United star, Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The Dutchman who joined the Germans in January is expected to be out for several months after suffering a crucial ligament rupture in his right knee during Sunday’s  2-1 home defeat against SC Freiburg.

“It is a hard blow for Timothy,” said Bayer Sports Director Simon Rolfes, “we will support him as much as we can so that he can emerge stronger from this difficult situation.”

The club suffered a double blow with an additional injury to Jeremier Frimpong and coach Peter Bosz admitted that Fosu-Mensah’s injury is bad.

“Timothy is now being examined, but unfortunately we have to assume that it is a bad injury. Jeremie took a knock to his thigh,” he said after the game.

Fosu-Mensah whose Old Trafford career was plagued by a series of injuries has now joined a long list of injured Leverkusen players including the twins – Sven and Lars Bender, goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, Santiago Arias, Julian Baumgartlinger and Paulinho.

Sports director Rudi Völler told Bild on Sunday that Leverkusen had as many long-term injuries as it has not for ten years: “And without the Benders, without Baumgartlinger and Hradecky, we’re a bit too calm and well-behaved on the pitch it also happens that our players provoke and stimulate each other in a positive way. ” (Sky Germany)

Meanwhile, former United teammate, Marcus Rashford has sent a goodwill message to Fosu-Mensah following the injury picked up yesterday.
