Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has blamed the attack on unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos State on forces beyond his direct control.
It comes after a number of security officials dressed in military attire were recorded firing live rounds at the protesters who were still at the toll gate after the government imposed a 24-hour curfew.
Reports revealed that a number of people have been killed while an unknown number of victims currently lie at various hospitals.
Speaking after the incident on his official Twitter account, the governor who extended the curfew deadline from initial 4pm to 9pm said he had no control over the attack in his state.
“This is the toughest night of our lives as forces beyond our direct control have moved to make dark notes in our history, but we will face it and come out stronger.
“I’ve just concluded visits to hospitals with victims of this unfortunate shooting incident at Lekki.
It has taken me this long to make a statement because I have to prioritize the welfare of the victims of this very sad incident. pic.twitter.com/jH18PPXnkr
