Lebanon has designated April 9 as a national day of mourning to honour victims of recent Israeli attacks, following a significant surge in violence across the country.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam approved the decision through an official decree, according to government sources.

Authorities reported that at least 254 people have lost their lives in the strikes, warning that the figure may increase as ongoing rescue efforts continue.

The directive mandates the closure of government offices, public institutions, and municipal services, while national flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout the country.

Radio and television programming will also be modified to reflect the period of mourning.

The move comes amid rising concerns over the humanitarian consequences of the attacks and escalating tensions in the wider region.
