Published

The quarter final pairings of the English Football League cup is out and the draws are not as many would have wanted it.

Although there aren’t any totally high profile matches to be anticipated, the fact that West Ham could hand Chelsea an unprecedented defeat in the London derby a few hours ago, shows that teams which do not look tough may actually play the spoiler unexpectedly.

The Hammers dealt Chelsea a major blow by sending them packing from the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The draw sees Liverpool welcome Leeds United, while Manchester United earned a clash with West Ham after comfortably seeing off Manchester City in the second Manchester derby of the season.

In other pairings, Hull City will take on Newcastle United while red-hot Arsenal secured a date with Southampton FC who themselves saw off Sunderland in a keenly contested encounter at the St Mary’s stadium.

Recall that violence broke out at the Olympic Stadium after the match between Hammers and the Blues which ended on a negative note for the Antonio Conte-led side.
