Lawmakers have demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of a cleric who called for the death of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The controversy unfolded when a video surfaced featuring the cleric proclaiming, “Now, Tinubu, his wife is an infidel. As an infidel, she is a leader among the infidels. God’s judgement says she must be killed. She’s a pastor… a leader of infidels (Christians); Allah says they must be killed.”
In response, the Member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, expressed his outrage in a now-deleted tweet. He rejected the cleric’s apology and called for swift legal action, stating, “He should keep his apology. They should arrest him and prosecute him immediately.”
El-Rufai’s sentiments were echoed by former Senator Shehu Sani, who emphasized that while criticizing the government is a democratic right, calling for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu is “unacceptable and utterly condemnable.”
Sani conveyed his disapproval through his X account, saying, “Criticising the Government and its policies is within the ambit of democratic rights; but calling for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu by the religious cleric is unacceptable and utterly condemnable.”
