LAWMA workers killed as LASTMA officials reportedly chase driver



At least two female workers of the Lagos Waste Management Authority were killed in the Charlie Boy area inward Gbagada, Lagos State after they were crushed to death by a vehicle on Monday morning.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that the yet-to-be-identified driver who drove a Sienna vehicle with the number plate EPE 984 DV was being chased by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Although the circumstances surrounding the accident remain unknown an eyewitness simply identified as Sodiq, “It was a ghastly accident, two LAWMA women were just knocked down by a Sienna vehicle while they were carrying out their duty.

“We don’t know what was wrong with the driver, he just drove straight here and hit the two women. It is such a pity.

“The driver has been arrested and handed over to the police.”

As of the time of filing this report, the LASTMA is yet to confirm the incident, however, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, LASTMA’s Public Affairs chief, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, called for patience until the agency releases an official press statement.
