The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso has been thrown into turmoil following the tragic killing of a student by a policeman. In response to the incident, the Oyo State chapter of the National Association of University Students Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC) has declared a shutdown of academic activities at the institution.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Comrade Michael Oladipupo, the Executive Chairman of the NAUS CMC, issued a statement strongly condemning what he described as “the appalling and senseless murder of one of our esteemed students at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso at the hands of members of the Nigerian Police Force.”
The tragic event occurred when a police officer, called to intervene in a misunderstanding on campus, resorted to firing his weapon, resulting in the death of a student and injury to two others. The incident has sparked heavy protests at the university, with enraged students demanding justice for the victims.
Reacting to the situation, Oladipupo announced the decision to halt all academic activities at LAUTECH until further notice. He emphasized the need for comprehensive reform within law enforcement agencies across Nigeria, highlighting the incident as a stark reminder of the urgent need for change.
“In this stance, no Classes must take place anywhere on Campus today. Further directive on Protest and Mobilisation will be released soonest. Till Justice is served, Aluta Continua,” declared Oladipupo.
