The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin campus, Oyo State, has suspended all academic activities for two weeks after a 200-level student died in a road accident.

The victim, a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, was hit and killed by an unidentified commercial driver on the Iseyin–Saki Road on Friday morning.

Witnesses said the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident. Angered by the act, some students reportedly set the commercial vehicle ablaze before security operatives arrived.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the Registrar of the university, Olayinka Balogun, said the management decided to suspend activities on the campus to allow students and staff recover from the tragic loss.

Balogun said, “The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin.

“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”

He added that the two-week suspension took effect immediately and that students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources were expected to return on Monday, November 24, 2025.

Balogun also urged students to remain calm, stay safe, and support one another during the period.

The university said officers on essential duties would be notified to remain at work.
