The former Ondo state Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa, has disclosed that late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had discussed the prospect of assuming the state’s governorship with him.

According to a report on Leadership Newspaper, Akinterinawa revealed that Governor Akeredolu had advised him to prepare for succession upon his return from a trip to Germany.

Although Akinterinawa, who is yet to declare his gubernatorial ambition under the All Progressives Congress formally, shared this revelation, he was warmly received by Abuja residents at the Akure Airport.

Akinterinawa stated, “Late Governor Akeredolu had a discussion with me in his office and told me he would want me to take over from him… He prayed for me, and I am aware he told certain people about his desire.”

Regarding his potential candidacy amidst stiff competition, including from the incumbent governor, Akinterinawa expressed optimism about securing the APC ticket for the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election.

He asserted, “The people of Ondo State are with me, and I am very confident that I will win the APC primary.”

Addressing supporters at the Akure Airport, Akinterinawa extended gratitude for their patience despite his delayed arrival due to adverse weather conditions.

He emphasized the importance of public appreciation for good service, stating, “Your gesture is a testimonial that when you do well, people will appreciate you. This is a manifestation of better things to come.”
