Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority apprehended three notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbers near the Jubilee Bridge around the Abule-Egba area of Lagos on Thursday.

Confirming the arrest, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq disclosed that the suspects were apprehended by LASTMA personnel alongside their operational vehicle, a painted ‘T4’ commercial bus (APP 406 YE), at the U-turn area of Abule-Egba.

Taofiq explained, “Preliminary investigations revealed that they were notorious ‘one-chance’ armed robbers terrorizing the entire Abule-Egba and its environs.” He added that the suspects had been chased by members of the public after pushing a man down from their vehicle following a robbery.

The suspects attempted to escape recklessly but were eventually caught by LASTMA officials who were controlling and managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis.

One of the suspects managed to escape with a Point of Sale machine before the arrival of the police.

“The two suspects were later handed over to Policemen from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation,” Taofiq stated.

In response to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, appealed to the public, especially commuters, to exercise vigilance.

He urged people to avoid boarding commercial buses by the roadside, commonly referred to as ‘So-le.’
