LASTMA dismisses five officers over corruption, misconduct


The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has officially terminated the employment of five officers and reprimanded two others for their involvement in corruption and misconduct during their official duties. 

The decision was revealed in a statement provided to PUNCH Metro by LASTMA’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday.

The statement clarified that the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had endorsed all recommendations from the Personnel Management Board during their meeting on August 19, 2023. 

“While five LASTMA officials indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment’, remaining two  received a letter of ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave.”

Adebayo Taofiq quoted the acting General Manager of the agency, Bakare Oki, stating that the disciplinary measures adhered to the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. 

Oki emphasized the importance of the public sharing their experiences and providing evidence of alleged misconduct to help the agency address such issues and improve its operations.. 

“This is necessary for all of us to promote a Greater Lagos for the benefit of all and for the realisation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).”

“We wish to add by informing well-meaning and concerned Lagos residents and the motoring public that we have various windows through which complaints can be channelled for prompt action – 08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only) and Provost on 08129928490,” Oki said.

Bakare Oki reassured the public that such complaints would be thoroughly and impartially investigated, while encouraging compliance with the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018 for the benefit of all and the realization of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s development objectives in traffic management and transportation.
