The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has deployed additional officers to manage the traffic congestion caused by long fuel queues in parts of the state.
This move comes as fuel scarcity has resurfaced in Lagos, forcing motorists to spend hours at filling stations, often paying higher prices for fuel.
In a statement, LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, conveyed the concerns of the agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who emphasized the importance of keeping roads free-flowing despite the challenges posed by fuel queues.
“This increased deployment is necessary due to reports of long queues at filling stations caused by motorists who park indiscriminately, blocking roads as they wait to purchase fuel,” Bakare-Oki explained.
He further stressed the need for effective traffic management in Lagos, stating, “We want our roads to be free-flowing; fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos.”
Bakare-Oki reiterated that maintaining smooth traffic flow is crucial for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in the state.
