The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has denied claims that it released a timetable for the 2025 local government elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission described the widely circulated notice of election dates as fake. It warned political parties, stakeholders, and the public to ignore the false information.

Reports had spread online suggesting that LASIEC had scheduled the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections for July 19, 2025.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), made it clear that the document did not come from the Commission.

“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) that a fake 2025 Notice of Elections is currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, purportedly issued by the Commission,” she said.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that such a Notice of Election did not emanate from the Commission and hereby advises citizens, in particular, political parties and all other critical stakeholders to disregard such publications.”

She further explained that LASIEC is guided strictly by the law, and official announcements will be made only through approved channels and at the right time.

“The conduct of Local Government elections in Lagos State is a process that is guided by laws, and at the appropriate time as stipulated by law, the notice of election shall be published in the various newspapers,” she added.

LASIEC urged everyone to wait for the official timetable, which will be properly announced according to legal procedures.
