Scores of burial guests feared dead as landing jetty collapses in Rivers
A landing jetty collapsed in Isaka community, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, leaving scores of people feared dead.
The PUNCH, quoting a witness, reports that the victims, number unknown, were heading to the state capital, Port Harcourt after attending a burial.
According to an eyewitness identified as Isaac Walter, many of the victims were in a queue to board a Port Harcourt-bound boat when the incident occurred.
Many people attended the burial in the area, according to Walter, but only a few of those involved in the accident were rescued as of the time of this report.
“On our way back, people queued to board the vessel. In that process, the jetty caved in and so many people fell into the river. Few of them were rescued,” Walter said.
