Land feud: Police arraign Ondo farmer over attempted murder, malicious damage

A 34-year-old farmer, Olajide Omotoyole, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State for allegedly threatening to kill one Owoleye Ayodele.

The police charged Omotoyole, whose address was not given, with threat to life, felony and malicious damage.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant on January 4 around 10 p.m. in Okitipupa Magisterial District threatened to kill Ayodele, the complainant over a land feud.

Orogbemi added that the defendant conspired with two others, who are at large to destroy a fence and 20 aluminum window glasses worth N600,000, property of Ayodele.

He said that the defendant also destroyed 15 more window glasses worth N450 000 property of Ayodele’s brother, Akinpelumi.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 86, 516 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Chris Ojuola admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 9 for further hearing.
