LAMATA to prosecute company’s, passengers found paying with cash

The Lagos MetropolitanArea Transport Authority has said that it would prosecute any one found paying or accepting cash Lagos state regulated public transport system.

This update was shared in a video by the Head of Bus Services, LAMATA, Dr Kemi Amure who said that it was an offense to pay with with cash.

In the video shared on the agancy’s X (formerly Twitter) page, Amure said “ Do you know it is an offense to pay with cash on the BRT, FLM or any regulated mode of transportation in Lagos State.

“The Lagos State Cowry card is the only recognized form of payment on all regulated transports. It allows commuters seamless access to all regulated mode of transportation without the need to use cash.

“It is illegal to use cash for any transaction for any of the regulated transport, violators will be arrested, prosecuted accordingly.

“In this case, both the passenger and the personnel of the operating company will be persecuted.”

The Lagos state government through LAMATA, launched the e-ticketing system by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in August 2020, stating that the use of the card had become imperative to reduce cash transactions in transport operations.
