As part of preparations for the much-anticipated Purple Line rail project, officials of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority have met with key local government stakeholders to discuss the project’s scope and impact.

The meeting, led by LAMATA’s Technical Adviser on Planning, Osa Konyeha, brought together representatives from Orile Agege, Iba, and Alimosho local councils. Among those in attendance were Orile Agege LCDA Chairman, Johnson Babatunde; Iba LCDA Chairman, Yisa Jubril; and Secretary to Alimosho Local Government, Dare Ogunkoya, who represented the council’s Chairman, Jelili Sulaimon.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, LAMATA explained that the Purple Line would span 57 kilometers, linking Redemption Camp to Volkswagen, with 17 stations along the route.

The rail line is expected to integrate seamlessly with Lagos’s existing transport network, easing congestion and improving connectivity for residents.

“This sensitisation exercise precedes the scoping exercise, a mandatory step in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment before project implementation,” the statement read.

LAMATA’s delegation included Lead Consultant Dr. Babatunde Osho, Head of Corporate Communication Kolawole Ojelabi, and Dipo Quadri.

The agency emphasized the project’s potential to transform transportation in the state and enhance economic opportunities along the corridor.

In response, the local government representatives pledged their support, assuring LAMATA of cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
