Super Eagles striker Akor Adams made an instant impact on his return to club football, scoring two late goals as Sevilla FC fought back to earn a 2–2 draw against Elche CF on Monday night.
Adams, who returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty less than 48 hours earlier, was introduced at the start of the second half and turned the game on its head at the Manuel Martínez Valero Stadium.
Sevilla went into the break struggling for ideas and hovering close to the relegation zone. Coach Quique Sánchez Flores threw on Adams after the interval, replacing Gerard Fernández, and the Nigerian forward quickly changed the tempo of the match.
Elche appeared to be cruising towards victory before Adams pulled one back in the 75th minute, calmly finishing past goalkeeper Iñaki Peña to give Sevilla hope.
Deep into stoppage time, Sevilla were awarded a penalty and Adams stepped up with confidence. In the second minute of added time, he blasted the spot kick into the roof of the net to complete his brace and secure a crucial point for the visitors.
The goals took Adams’ La Liga tally to five goals and two assists in 15 league appearances this season, highlighting his growing influence in Spanish football.
The striker returned to Sevilla full of confidence after an impressive outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria. Adams recorded two goals and two assists in seven matches as the Super Eagles finished third at the tournament.
Nigeria secured the bronze medal after a 0–0 draw against Egypt, winning 4–2 on penalties in the third-place match.
For Sevilla, the draw could prove vital in their fight for stability this season. After 20 league games, every point matters, and Adams’ late intervention helped push the club further away from immediate relegation danger.
Beyond the result, his performance offered a timely boost. While many players need time to settle after international duty, Akor Adams needed just 45 minutes to remind La Liga of his quality.
