The Lagos State Government has withdrawn a murder case against Tajudeen Bakare, popularly referred to as Ogboni Chief who was accused of shooting one Jumoke Oyeleke during the Yoruba Nation rally in the state.

47  of the protesters were arrested by the police at the rally held in Ojota on July 1.

While these ones were released, Bakare was detained and charged with the murder of Oyeleke, a sachet water seller, WuzupNigeria had reported.

The sachet water seller reportedly died from a stray bullet when the police were in pursuit of the protesters.

But a statement signed by the Communications Manager, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Maxwell Adeleye, on Wednesday, said Oba Ogboni has also been released.

The statement read in part, “Lagos State Government withdraws murder charges against detained Yoruba Nation Protester, Tajudeen Bakare (Oba Ogboni). He has been released from custody.”

According to The PUNCH, Maxwell said the magistrate court could not hear the case and it was referred to the High Court. The court requested the Department of Public Prosecution’s advice and because there was no evidence, the case was withdrawn by the state government.
